Anne O'Donnell and Shadowpoint's Queen of Sheba

(Weatherrun's Perfect Storm x Weatherrun's Automatic Overdrive "Mattie") have competed in the

2011 Canadian National Team at the 2011 International Federation of Sleddog Sport (IFSS) World Championships held in Norway in March 2011!
Anne and Sheba trained for  the 1 dog skijoring and Nordic combined (pulling a Norwegian sled (pulka) & skijoring).
Beginning at the WCh in Hamar, Norway with the NWS 2-dog (11.5 km) on March 19, 2011 and then on to the
WCh in Holmenkollen, Norway for the Woman Senior Skijoring 1-dog (13.3 km) on March 24, 2011,
Woman Senior Combined (2 x 3.75 km pulka + 2 x 3.75 km skijoring = 15 km) March 26, 2011,
and Mixed Relay (8.18 km pulka - 8.18 km skijoring - 8.18 km pulka) March 27, 2011.

Here are some of Anne's comments:

"We were amongst the last however competition very high amongst Europeans.  Half of the Canadians used European dogs much better adapted to conditions.  I’m happy that I succeeded doing the course.  Somepeople did not finish or were thrown out of the course because could not climb the hills.  Sheba climbed the hills at a slow but steady pace.  Often times we had no dogs to follow. She has a strong mind.  For the 2 dog, my Canadian colleage was late to assist me and I was penalized 4 minutes!!!! That caused me stress and affected my time by a total of 5 minutes."

"Team Canada voted that I do the pulka (men & women mixed relay final leg) with Sheba since the last leg the risk of running alone is high (without dogs ahead) and Sheba has a strong mind, enough to run up the hills with dogs in front.  She is a persistant puller.  Actually, she is slow and steady, but strong minded enough to go at it without dogs ahead."

"Sheba is so non chalante!  Nothing bothers her too much.  She is a confident girl!  She is so happy running with other dogs or the pulka and it is really a joy to ski with her.  By the way, she raced with an old race dog and she did all of the pulling!!!  After the event, she was cooing to me showing me her happiness".

I can't put into words the awe I am overehelmed with watching this level of competition and athletic ability.  For Anne and Sheba to travel across the world and compete with the world's greatest teams (and breeds) leaves all of us at Shadowpoint speechless and very proud of these incrediable accomplishments.  Simple put, WOW!  Sheba is a young dog, young in her career and we know her greatest moments are yet to come under the love and training of Anne O'Donnelll.  We will always be cheering you on!

After the victory interviews were done for women's mass start combined, Anne O'Donnell crosses the finish line with her hands held high. She is happy just to be able to participate in the WCh.

Steep hills

O'Donnell is tired but also very excited to participate in the WCh at Holmenkollen. - It has been a tremendous experience to be here, she says, but does not hide her opinion of the trails: hard and hilly. - The trails have been tough. From now on all other races will be a piece of cake, she says with a smile. It has probably been extra hard for her on trail, as she did not have anyone immediately in front of her to pursue. Yet her place on the result list does not seem to bother her the least.

Anne O'Donnell praises the event, which she thinks is extremely well organized. This, in addition to the audience and the staff, makes her really enjoy just being able to participate. - I am so enthusiastic, she says and does not leave any doubt about just that.

.The competition from the of the European contenders was fierce, the course was fierce, the conditions were fierce.  Anne and Sheba showed nothing less than a fierce spirit while competing against the worlds top dogs.
This is only the beginning of Sheba's career.
We are SO PROUD OF YOU ANNE AND SHEBA!
We too hold our hands high and congratulate you your amazing accomplishment!

Just thought you might enjoy the short video of Sheba pulka training.  She’s on the far left (and rearing to go at the start line).
