Shadowpoint has received a 2009 NAVHDA NA Breeder's Award for our 2008 Baron x Mattie litter! As a breeder and trainer, I could not be
happier with these dogs! With these accomplishments, we meet the criteria for a NAVHDA Breeder's Award. Even more exciting, we are the first Canadian Weimaraner Breeder to receive this honor and with 4 - Prize 1 scores! This is a humble reward that shows our
breeding program is
producing the kind of dogs we set out for – VERSATILE HUNTING DOGS, of
excellent temperament and conformation. We proudly look forward
to
watching these pups mature and train for CKC FD this fall as part of their UT goal. - Bertpictures below
NAVHDA Finger Lakes Chapter, Buffalo, NY August 30, 2009 Shadowpoint’s Ruby Tuesday "Juno", NA Prize 1, perfect score 112 points Handled By Bert McLeod, Owned By Paul L and Bert McLeod NAVHDA Ontario Grand River Chapter May 9 & 10, 2009 What a weekend! We could not asked for better, aside from maybe the weather. It was a balmy and barely 13 (60) degrees and very windy, overcast and rain at times. Not the best conditions for test day but it didn’t slow these pups down! We proudly announce the following results with a few comments from the owners/handlers. A few pictures of the weekend follow below. Shadowpoint’s Camden Briggs, NA Prize 1, score 107 points Handled by Bert; Owned by Peter & Lesa Ray and Bert McLeod, Briggs had a great day, full of desire. He was focused and performed as expected. Big range, desire to search, held solid points to flush, retrieve to hand, cooperative and a perfect track bringing back a pheasant. This boy brought his many months of hunting wild birds and showed exactly what he could do. Great run Briggs! Shadowpoint’s Summer Daisy “Faye”, NA Prize 1, score 108 points Handled by Dave Wolffe; Owned by Dave & Sherry Wolfe and Bert McLeod "First, I'd like start off by saying thank you to Bert for all your help and guidance in preparing Faye for her NA test. Your devotion and unwavering dedication to the breed and your belief in all the dogs that you have helped train this spring, was undying and very much appreciated. The weather on test day was less then perfect, but I don't think it hindered Faye at all since every training day we had it was either snowing, raining, high wind or cold or, our personal favorite, all the above combined! Faye came out as Faye always does, full of desire and speed. She was a bit over anxious in the field and bumped her first two birds, but as the test went on she settled down into her rhythm held a nice point on her last bird. The track was in a less ideal location on a top of a small rolling hill with a high wind across the hill. She set up nicely followed her track straight for a thirty feet. The wind made it hard for a easy track, but she show smarts and quick learning as she made loops and used the wind to her advantage. She continued to make forward progress which is what the judges want to see. She eventually made it to a bush line and followed the trail into the bush but was unable to find her bird. During her allowed time she showed a excellent noise, quick learning in using the wind, and most importantly desire - she never gave up and continued to make forward motion to find that bird. She wanted that bird and not once did she come back to me for guidance or help. The last phase of the test was swimming, which to her is right now is something that is just pure fun. She made no hesitation in getting wet! The wind or small waves didn't hinder her in the slightest. Overall the test was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone interested in any versatile breed to join a club and do the test. You will enjoy it! The members of our club are great and what you get from your dog is pure, all they want is to make you happy. " May 10, 2009 - Happy 1st Birthday Briggs, Faye and Symon! Shadowpoint’s Sterling Sir Symon, NA Prize 1, perfect score 112 points Handled by Jennifer Durocher; Owned by Jennifer & Jason Durocher "After running a respectable Prize 3 on Saturday, I decided I would run him again on Sunday to give Symon a chance to redeem his obvious "off day". Symon came out and showed exactly what I knew he had in him. He did extremely well in the field with 4 solid points including one retrieve to hand. He couldn’t have been more driven, focused and cooperative! Again for the track, Symon was focused and determined. He tracked his pheasant in less than 60 seconds with a perfect retrieve to hand of a live, unmarked bird. What a feeling we had as we walked off the field, Symon on heel, to meet Bert. After all, it was not only Symon that had been training, but I as well. Symon’s water work went as expected, eagerly and easily retrieving his two bumpers again showing his strong desire and cooperation. I can honestly say at this point, I was so proud of this boy, I would have still been happy with his Prize 3 because he really gave it what he had. At the end of the day, Symon achieved the only perfect score of the day of a field of 10 exceptional dogs. Congratulations Symon, you have one very proud owner! I cannot thank Bert (& Marilyn) enough for the time, effort and dedication they have put into OUR training." The Natural Ability Test is organized into four main phases, as follows: 1) Field Phase - The dog is hunted in cover where the presence of game has been assured by the releasing of game birds. The dog is judged on reaction to gunfire (gun shyness), use of nose, search, pointing, desire and cooperation. 2) Tracking Phase - The dog is given an opportunity to track a flightless running pheasant or chukar. The dog is judged on use of nose, tracking, desire to work and cooperation. 3) Water Phase - The dog is tested for its willingness to swim. The dog is judged on water entry, desire to work and cooperation. 4) Judgment of Physical Characteristics (Bite/Teeth, Eyes, Coat, Testes,Temperament).
